I thought I would take this opportunity to review a bit about my network show that I am analyzing, called Running Wilde, which premiered on FOX tonight (Tuesday, Sept 21 at 9:30.)
In a nutshell, the show is about some really spoiled rich guy who encounters a youthful love interest later in life who now has a daughter. After some convincing, the guy convinces the woman to stay with him and enroll her daughter in school instead of returning to the wilderness to work on saving tribal peoples or something like that. The end.
I watched this show in its entirety. I read an article comparing it to another new series that premiered right before it, which is called Raising Hope, and the article seems to define Raising Hope as the more humorous of the two shows. Here's the link: <http://watching-tv.ew.com/2010/09/21/raising-hope-running-wilde-will-arnett/>
In this article, the reviewer said the Running Wilde achieved only 'smaller' laughs, where as it was going for larger ones. The reviewer also pointed out that FOX was not helping the show out at all, putting it after Raising Hope.
This was one thing that I noticed, though. Glee premiered as well tonight at 8:00 and is an hour long. I think that Glee was intentionally placed before the two premieres in order to attract the audience and hope that they would stay to watch at least one of the new premieres. Directly after Running Wilde was the 10PM news, so these two shows were squeezed into the middle.
My thoughts on the show: Eh, it doesn't look too good. The show was going for comedy, but my spin on it was that it was more heartfelt than funny, and it wasn't very heartfelt at all. Ratings are not available yet since it just premiered, however, the critics are saying that since there are many stars in it and it has a decent storyline, that 'we should give it a chance.' They think that it will do ok if it finds its comedy legs.
This show seems destined to fail, honestly. Comedy should not feel forced or contrived, and Running Wilde is begging for laughs. With a similiar, and supposedly better show also airing, Runnign Wilde will be cancelled soon.
ReplyDeleteI read a review that says the female lead doesn't talk?! Does that work?
