Blog Frog: The beat of Memphis; chronicle I

First thoughts: before knowing anything about this show, as I am researching this while I am writing about it, I thought I'd share what's going through my mind.

I go to TNT's homepage for this show, Memphis beat <http://www.tnt.tv/series/memphisbeat/>
and I find that apparently this show has some pretty good music, since there's a giant link on their site to find out about it:

["Hey, what was that song?" "How can I get that song?" If you've ever asked these types of questions while watching Memphis Beat you'll want to check out our Music section where we have a breakdown of the music from each episode, as well as a Memphis Beat iTunes playlist.]

Come on, an iTunes playlist?? Some people live for this kind of stuff, which I guess I should be happy about because our job field depends on this cult following nonsense.

According to Hollywoodreporter.com, Memphis Beat has just been renewed for a second season, after premiering this summer. It has been averaging a 1.1 rating for adults 18-49 for the past 10 episodes.

With this website, they are obviously trying to get people involved in every aspect of the show since there are links for different things, like interviews with the cast, behind the scenes footage, exclusive content, interactive activities, and you can watch full episodes online. The best news of the day has to be that you can follow them on Facebook and Twitter!

This drama fits in with most of the other dramas on TNT, very serious, action filled, etc. I think it will do good for awhile, as long as it doesn't get lost within all the other dramas on the network.

Question time. Has anyone watched this show? I'm gonna watch next week's show and keep an eye out for what other shows they promote on commercials during it and what is on before and after it. This way, I can understand what the programmers are trying to shove down my throat.

Until next blog, this is the Blog Frog; signing out.

  1. This is one of the shows I said would be canceled early. I didn't know what it was about, though. All I knew was that I had seen a billboard with Jason Lee and a guitar on it, and thought, "This can't end well." Shows what I know, haha.
I also find the music thing interesting. I know MTV does something similar; when a song is playing during a show, the song name and artist appear on the bottom of the screen, which I think is really cool. I hate when I hear a good song on TV, but don't know who it is, and then forget to look it up. It's a neat concept to integrate music into a show that's not explicitly about music.

  2. First off cult following nonsense made me laugh. Not jut because of how cynical it is but because it's brutally true. This show seems like something they are going to try and exploit by every aspect as you've pointed out. Money money money is the only thing they care about. The plot seems vanilla and that's perfect for the idiotic masses we try to project to.

"You never realize how dumb people are until you try to sell them shit. You can make them do anything."
